A Little Way Back to Yourself
Sep 22, 2026Hello Beautiful Soul,
Last night, I went to South Africa without leaving my yoga mat.
I’d spent the day running around, feeling half a step behind myself. Nothing was terribly wrong. I just felt a little off. My father used to say, “It’s your biorhythms.”
I’d missed my morning yoga, so in the evening I lay down for the laziest practice I could manage. I moved a little. I breathed. And when I finished, I stayed there with my eyes closed and let the music wash over me.
That’s when South Africa came back to me.
I remembered waking early as a child, drinking rooibos tea from a tin cup and watching the sun rise. The smell of the air. There’s a sweetness to it that doesn’t quite compare, and it feels like home.
Recently, I took Mika to a game farm in the Eastern Cape, where I was born. I wanted her to feel something of that world too: the early game drives, the beauty of an African sunrise, and the hush that falls over you when a majestic animal is close.
“I could live in the bush,” I told her.
She raised an eyebrow.
“In a house,” I said. “With a bath, running water and lights, obviously.”
Last night, I stayed with that memory. I imagined carrying my cup outside and listening to the world wake up. I could almost feel the morning air.
As I breathed, something shifted. It was as though a switch had flipped. I felt more like myself. Home again.
Try this the next time you have a bad biorhythms day.
Remember a time when you felt peaceful and fully yourself. It might have been somewhere in nature, in your grandmother’s kitchen, around a table full of food, or with people who just feel like home.
Close your eyes and go there for a little while. Let the picture come alive. Hear the sounds. Notice the light. Breathe as though you are there, and give yourself time to feel what happens in your body.
Then open your eyes and notice what came back with you.
I love knowing there are ways back to ourselves.
Sometimes I return through imagination. Sometimes through movement and breath. And sometimes through Kundalini Activation: lying down, listening deeply, and allowing the rush of a thousand things to fall away until I can feel myself again.
On October 1, I’ll be holding a Kundalini Activation Evening at Sand & Sage here on Amelia Island. If you feel called to join us, I would love to welcome you.
With love always,
Sonia
